Telescopic Pool enclosures - How does this type of pool enclosure work?

Please Note this Special Editorial supplied by Extensions in Glass

How does this type of pool enclosure work?

telescopic enclosuresAs already said in The big advantages…, a pool enclosure supplied by Extensions in Glass is semi-permanent. It is built up out of two end segments and several middle segments that are fit together to make the enclosure. As the end segments are fixed, the middle segments can be moved to one side over a track system to open up the construction. In this way the swimming pool can be used in the open air and be enclosed when necessary.

The sides of the enclosure are made of toughened glass to ensure safety and rigidity. The roof is made of triple thickness polycarbonate, which has been treated with No Drop, which ensures that no condensation will be dripping on your head when you take your swim. All this is set in an aluminium frame. At the end of each segment a brush is added to ensure that no rain or dirt can enter the enclosure.

Depending on the construction of the enclosure, the enclosure has to be opened and closed by either one or two people. The segments are mounted on wheels and the segments slide into one another like a telescope. Opening the enclosure will take approximately 15 minutes, whereas closing it may take about 20 minutes. This doesn't need a lot of power as the segments are on wheels.

The total weight of the structure depends on the size of the enclosure. To give an indication: an 8m wide segment weighs about 340kg and an 8m wide end segment weighs approximately 700kg. And all it needs to be built upon is a level paved area on a concrete bed. Building the enclosure can start as soon as the paving is completed.

Before instruction, Extensions in Glass will make a site visit to plan and estimate what is necessary for your particular case. The segments will then be built manually in the workshop in about 3-4 days and transported to the site. The same team will then built the enclosure on site in another 3-4 days, depending on the size of the structure. As all the enclosures are tailor-made, the customer can choose which colour the material will have and even tinted glass and polycarbonate are an option. Delivery time varies from season to season. It is advisable to order the enclosure in winter, as the delivery time is only approximately six weeks. In the summertime this can be up to six months!

Different types of enclosures

As all the enclosures are tailor-made, there is no such thing as different types of enclosures between which you have to choose. There isn't even a maximum width so that even the widest pool can be enclosed. To give you an idea of the possibilities though a few general structures can be distinguished. The rest is up to your imagination!

Beamless enclosures

Beamless pool enclosures This type of enclosure is built up of several complete segments and two end segments. All the segments will open up to one end and have to be handled by two people.

Beamed enclosures

Enclosures with a beam are built up of half segments meeting in the middle with a beam. The advantages of this type of construction are that enclosure can be opened and closed by one person and that the beam ads rigidity to the structure. Also bigger pools can be enclosed using a construction like this.

Enclosures up to a wall

pool enclosure next to a wall If your swimming pool is next to a wall, whether this is a sidewall or a wall that marks the end of your pool, a semi permanent enclosure can be built against it. This will then consist of a permanent structure built against the wall and half segments making up the opening structure.
